Fill out the application to renew your Hong Kong passport. There is an application online (see Resources) that you can fill out. The applications available are for those that are outside or inside of Hong Kong and are 16 years or older. There are separate applications for applicants that are younger than 16.
Have three head shots taken. The pictures must have a white background and they must be only head shots. The photos must be 40mm by 50mm in size and in color. The Chinese consulate will not accept photographs any larger or smaller and/or in black and white.
Make a copy of your current Hong Kong ID card. Make a copy of your birth certificate to go along with the photos and application.
Mail your information for renewing your Hong Kong passport to the Immigration Department in Hong Kong or the nearest Chinese consulate, if you are outside of China. You can also send your information online (see Resources) or take it to the consulate.
Pick up your renewed Hong Kong passport. You can pick the passport up at the Chinese embassy or consulate or you can have someone pick it up for you if you do not live near the consulate. If you meet the requirements for ordering a new passport online, then you can place an order online or by mail and have it mailed to you.
