Obtaining a Hong Kong Passport

Hong Kong, previously a British protectorate, was returned to the control of China in 1997. According to the U.S. State Department, Hong Kong is officially a Special Administrative Region, with its own constitution and its own semi-autonomous government. Thus, in order to travel internationally, a Hong Kong resident requires a passport from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).
