How to Renew a Passport in the Ukraine

American citizens abroad can renew their passports at the U.S. Embassy in the country where they are currently residing. In the Ukraine, the embassy is in the capital of Kiev. An appointment using the embassy online system is required before visiting the passport office. The conditions for passport renewal are the same as the conditions for renewal of a passport inside the U.S., except the additional documentation required of persons naturalized as foreign citizens.

  • Recent passport
  • Name change documentation
  • U.S. Passport application form DS-82
  • Two identical color passport photographs, two-by two-inches
  • Foreign naturalization certificate, if applicable

      Make an appointment using the online booking system of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine.

      Bring your current passport, the $110 cash fee (as of 2010), completed form DS-82 and two passport photos to your appointment. Present them to the designated embassy official. Present a marriage certificate to document a name change by marriage.

      If you have naturalized as a foreign citizen since the passport was issued, a naturalization certificate from that country is required. The embassy official processing your application will also require a statement regarding your intentions to maintain your U.S. citizenship or not.

      Wait seven working days. Go to the embassy and pick up the new passport.
