Book an appointment with the United States embassy in Guatemala. You must renew a passport by appointment if it is for children under 16, adults whose old passport was issued before they were 16 and if your old passport was issued more than 15 years ago. The embassy has an online appointment setting service or you can book by calling (502) 2326-4000.
Download the relevant passport application form. Most passport renewals require you to complete form DS-82 (see Resources). If you don't want to download the form you can fill it in online and print it. If you complete the renewal form by hand you must write legibly, using black ink.
Get your passport photos taken. You will have to submit three color photographs that have a white background. The photos must be 2 inches by 2 inches.
Prepare your payment for the new passport. The embassy only accepts payments by credit card or in cash. You can pay in quetzales or in U.S. dollars. The embassy states that the renewal fee for an adult is $67, as of 2010. Passport renewals for children under 16 cost $82.
Go to the U.S. embassy at:
Embajada de los Estados Unidos de América
Avenida Reforma 7-01, Zona 10
Guatemala Ciudad, Guatemala
If your passport renewal does not require an appointment you can go to the embassy during certain hours. Walk-in services run Monday to Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Fridays. The service does not operate on the third Thursday and the second and last Friday of the month.
Bring your old passport, completed application form and payment with you.
