Reciprocity agreements and recognition for holders of concealed carry licenses simplify travel between reciprocal states. These license holders do, however, need to research, understand and comply with the particulars of the concealed-carry laws in the state they are visiting.
A reciprocal agreement means that State A has signed a formal agreement with state B to honor state B's carry permits like it honors out-of-state driver licenses, as long as state B will honor state A's permit. In contrast, recognition of another state's permits is a unilateral step in which state A honors state B's permits because state B's requirements are substantially similar or more stringent, but state B is unable to return the favor.
In Florida, a non-resident age 21 or older can obtain a Florida concealed carry license which will, with reciprocity and recognition, give her the privilege of concealed carry in a total of 30 states, including Florida.
