Instructions

    • 1

Get the correct addresses. Make sure you have the properly spelled street name, the exact number on each address and the ZIP code or other postal code if traveling overseas.

    • 2

Input the first address into the website mapquest.com. Starting at the home page, click under the heading "directions." A screen will appear that asks you for the starting and ending destinations. If you don't have an exact address, the website will make suggestions for you. After you put in this information the website will give you directions and give you the exact distance between the two places.

    • 3

Use an atlas or a map. An atlas is a book of maps. Locate the two places you want to travel between. Using a tape measure, measure the distance between them on the map. A key above the atlas will tell you approximately how many inches equal a specific distance. If you have a more detailed local map, use the same technique to get a more specific answer to your question.
