Open your Internet browser. Navigate to "Free Map Tools" on the How Far is it Between? website (see References section).
Enter the city and country from which you want to start. For example, New York, U.S. Then, enter the destination city, like Sydney, Australia. Since many countries are large, it's easiest to calculate the distance between destinations as opposed to borders.
Click the "Show" button next to the destination city, and you'll be given both an "as the crow flies" measurement and, if applicable, land and sea travel distance through the available transportation infrastructure. You can modify the results to be in miles or kilometers by clicking the button next to each in the results.
