Drive along major highways where accidents often occur. Victims' family members and friends often set up shrines at the site of the accident. These usually feature a cross or similar religious symbol, photographs of the dead, ribbons, flowers, trinkets and notes of well wishing from those left behind. You can find them all over the U.S. (particularly in areas where there are many people of Mexican heritage) as well as in many parts of the U.K. To find these wayside memorials, all you need to do is watch carefully while driving, although you may not be able to stop for a closer look.
Research famous shrines you want to visit. Ireland has a number of shrines, many of them pre-Christian. You can search for them according to name or by a location you want to visit. Ask people from the area about wayside shrines and where you may be able to find them.. Some places actually have them marked on tourist maps (particularly in the U.K.)
Travel to areas that are specifically known for their wayside shrines. Along with commemorating places where people have died, some people also build shrines along dangerous paths so that the gods of the area can protect travelers. Poland, Northern Europe, many parts of the U.K. and much of the Southern U.S. have many wayside shrines you can find by walking around exploring the area, or just by asking locals.
