Gettysburg Battle Tours

When traveling to historic Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, the Civil War battlefields shouldn’t be overlooked. For three days (July 1-3, 1863), Gettysburg was the center of one of the largest battles of the Civil War, a fight that became an epic part of United States history. There are several ways to tour the battlefields of Gettysburg and several things to see while on tour.
  1. Gettysburg Tour Center: Bus Tours

    • This tour offers two types of buses for guests to take over the fields of Gettysburg. Each bus comes with a National Park Service-licensed guide to answer any questions. The Double Decker bus tour offers guests an audio experience with cannon, rifle, drum and bugle sounds. However, check with the website for availability during the winter months. The Coach with Licensed Guide tour takes guests over the same fields as the Double Decker, but in a large, air-conditioned coach bus. Tickets for the Coach Tour are a bit more expensive than the Double Decker tour. Bus tours last about two hours and pick guests up five minutes before departure time. Refer to the company’s website for current ticket prices.

    Licensed Battlefield Guide: Private Tour

    • For a more private tour within the comforts of your own vehicle, the National Park Service offers a licensed battlefield guide service. The tour guide drives your personal vehicle through the battlefields of Gettysburg while giving information about the history of Gettysburg. Tours last two hours and are on a first-come, first-served basis. Sign-ups for these tour guides begin at 8 a.m. each day. You can also make reservations for large bus groups.

There are maps to download for guests to know where to stop while on the tour. Podcasts aren’t scripted, and new ones are added as necessary.
