They also have an arcade, creamery and a bird sanctuary you can visit. Municipal Beach (newbedford-ma.gov) has a seasonal lifeguard, free parking, volleyball court and playground. During the holiday season, you can pick your own Christmas tree at Keith's Farm (keithsfarm.net) or Silverbrook Farm (thesilverbrookfarm.com). While at Silverbrook farm, you can also get your face painted, enjoy hot chocolate and s'mores around a bonfire and visit the petting zoo.
Acushnet is the original home of the Titleist golf ball, so it shouldn't come as any surprise that golf is important to the community. The Acushnet River Valley Golf Course (golfacushnet.com) boasts a 17-hole golf course designed by renowned golf course architect Brian Silva. It offers two distinct golf experiences and is suitable for golfers of all skill levels. There are numerous tournaments and special events held every year on the green. The course also has a clubhouse, golf school and hosts golf leagues.
The Long Plain Museum (longplainmuseum.org) originally served as a schoolhouse built in 1875. It now serves as a museum featuring period clothing and furniture, the whaling industry, the blacksmith trade and other historical artifacts. White's Factory (no website; Hamlin Street, Acushnet; 508-998-0200) is a stone water-powered cotton mill built in 1799 by William White Sr. One of the earliest mills in the country, it burned down on two occasions and was rebuilt twice during the 1800s. The town holds the Acushnet Road Race (jbrace.com) annually during the Labor Day weekend where competitors get a chance to race in a number of categories. The Apple/Peach Festival takes place in early September each year with yard sales and farm stands selling fresh produce and baked goods along the town's main street. Many local farms have seasonal activities, along with being able to pick your own fresh fruits and vegetables. The Long Plain Museum often hosts concerts during the summer months.
