Visitors to the Farragut Folklife Museum will learn the history of Farragut and nearby Concord. The museum honors Admiral Farragut who was born in the area in 1801. He was a Navy officer who is famous for his phrase, "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead." Visitors will take a peek at the many artifacts and photographs mostly taken from Admiral Farragut's home like china, letters and manuscripts that the Admiral left behind. Other historical locations like churches and schools in Farragut have provided the museum with artifacts chronicling the history of the town. There is a also a gift shop with related toys, history books and handmade items like jewelry and crafts. This is a family-friendly place for all ages.
The Farragut Town Hall provides classes for children, teaching them various arts and crafts. These classes are available seasonally for a small fee. Some of the classes provided for children have been Mask Making, Paper Mache, Collage and Printmaking and Linoleum Printmaking. Local schools also put on an Art Festival each year with student artwork at the Town Hall on Municipal Center Drive. This event honors talented student artists and is held in March each year.
Farragut has several kid-friendly parks, some that include playgrounds specifically designed for children. Anchor Park and Mayor Bob Leonard Park both have playground equipment with jungle gyms, slides and swings. Picnicking is also available at these parks. Anchor Park is located near Louden Lake and is a prime spot to take kids fishing. Kids can go biking, hiking or rollerblading on one of the Greenways located in Farragut such as Grisby Chapel, Turkey Creek, and Parkside.
This children's athletic gym is one of a chain of 300 Little Gyms internationally. The Little Gym provides a non-competitive environment where children learn motor, emotional and social skills all while participating in fun activities. Gymnastics, karate, dance and cheerleading are all programs that this fitness center provides training in. The Little Gym also provides camps throughout the year that incorporate imaginative games and art classes. They also feature Parents' Survival Night which allows parents to have a night of fun while keeping their children safe and active. Through music and physical activities, children keep busy while their parents take a break.
