The Monadnock Country Club (monadnockcc.com) is located between Mount Monadcock and Temple Mountain in Peterborough. Established in 1901, it offers a public nine-hole golf course with highlights that include 60-foot elevation changes and approach shots over natural wetlands. It also provides putting and chipping as well private lessons and league play. The clubhouse includes a 2,100-square-foot function hall for up to 175 people, food and beverage service, and two on-site tennis courts, which are available to all members at no additional cost.
Miller State Park (nhstateparks.com), the oldest state park in New Hampshire, is located on the summit and flank of the 2,290-foot Pack Monadnock in Peterborough. In addition to a number of picnic areas, the 533-acre park offers three hiking trails of varying lengths: the 1.4-mile Marion Davis Trail, the 1.6-mile Raymond Trail and the well-known Waypack Trail, which is a 21-mile trail that covers an area from Mt. Watatic in Massachusetts to North Pack Monadnock in Greenfield, New Hampshire. Hikers are welcome on the trails throughout the year.
Bowling Acres (bowlingacres.com) is a bowling alley and family-entertainment center that is located in downtown Petersborough. It provides both public and league bowling as well as glow bowling, which is bowling under black lighting with glow-in-the-dark pins and neon-colored balls. The facility also includes a miniature golf course and an arcade with games that range from skee ball and billiards to air hockey. The on-site Bowling Acres Grill specializes in pizza, subs and burgers, and offers more than 60 different types of beer. The facility is open from Wednesday through Sunday.
For those who prefer a different type of physical activity, the Mudita Yoga studio (muditayoga.com) is located in downtown Peterborough. Led by nurse and massage therapist Alexandra Teague, the fully equipped studio provides a variety of workshops and retreats with a focus on yoga and meditation practices for beginner through advanced levels. Teague also provides private instruction to help relieve a wide array of ailments ranging from stress and depression to physical conditions such as back pain and chronic fatigue. The workshops and retreats are offered at varying times throughout the year and private instruction can be arranged by contacting Teague directly.
