The city of Antioch, California, offers only one recreational water park for adults and children. Prewett Family Park is a seasonal water park that opens in late spring and closes in early fall. This municipally owned water park opened in 1996 and is a 10-acre city operated facility. The park offers reasonable rates to the public and is also available for private events.
Prewett Family Park offers five slides and five separate pools. These rides include the Crystal Slide, Canyon Cooler, Humphrey's Slide, Rattler's Run, and a kid's slide. For four of the slides, children need to be 42 inches or taller; for the Canyon Cooler, children need to be 48 inches or taller. The park also offers a kids' wading pool and a big kids' activity pool. Parents will be able to watch their children from the same area, because these two pools are interconnected to three smaller pools. If the kids get hungry, they can walk over to the on-site Lazy River Cafe to grab a quick bite to eat before resuming play time.
If visitors to the park decide that they do not want to use the pools or slides, they can play a game in the park's volleyball courts as an option. Families who want to bond while eating can sit and relax in the picnic areas. Children can also attend recreational instruction activities such as swim classes, dance classes, and splash camps.
If you want to plan a special and private event at the water park, you can do so. Private parties are held in the park's Prewett Plunge Dome. As of January 2011, this party package is $14.25 per person and requires a minimum of 15 people. The package includes a private party for one hour and exclusive use of the Prewett Plunge Dome for 1 1/2 hours. You will also receive food and drinks such as three large pizzas and punch. Party-goers will be entertained by a visit from the park's mascot, Allie the Alligator. Private parties are usually held on Saturdays, but they can be reserved on some Fridays by special request.
Even though the park is closed for the winter season, the Prewett Plunge Dome is open on Sundays. This heated-dome covered lap pool opens every Sunday from February 6 until April 3, from 12 noon to 4 p.m. Children under the age of 2 get in free, while adults and older children must pay $4, as of January 2011. Families who are interested in using the pool must register at the Antioch Community Center, which is located adjacent to Prewett Family Park.
