As of Jan. 12, 2009, travelers from countries that are part of the Visa Wavier program may no longer fill out an I-94 form upon arrival to U.S. soil. Those travelers are now required to register with the Homeland Department of Security three days prior to traveling and gain approval for entry. Travelers must complete the registration online and pay and administrative fee before processing begins.
Visit the Electronic System for Travel Authorization three days prior to traveling to the United States. Click on the "Apply" link located in the green box on the left-hand side of the screen. Fill out all the required information about yourself and your travel plans.
Click the "Submit" button at the bottom of the application form.
Write down the "Application Number" that appears on the screen when you make your submission.
Click on the "Make Payment" link so you can make payment with your credit card. You will pay a processing fee that varies according to the country where you hold citizenship. An authorization fee of $10 is assessed upon approval of your application.
Update the status of your application by revisiting the ESTA website and entering your information in the green box on the right-hand side of the screen and clicking on the "Update Status" button. There you can make any changes you need regarding your registration.
