Television Stations in Shreveport, Louisiana

The city of Shreveport, Louisiana, is home to five television stations as of October 2010. Among these stations are affiliates of the national networks ABC, CBS and FOX, as well as a public broadcasting channel. In addition to the five stations based in the town, Shreveport residents also have access to NBC affiliate KTAL News Channel 6 from Texarkana, Texas, and CW affiliate KPXJ from Minden, Louisiana.

  1. KSLA TV

    • KSLA TV is Shreveport's CBS affiliate; it is Channel 12 in the city's viewing area. The television station launched in January 1954, becoming the first television station to go on the air in Shreveport. The station was also the first to broadcast in color in 1967 and the first to broadcast live Doppler radar in 1998. As of October 2010, the station has the only 9:00 a.m. weekday news program in the Shreveport viewing area. For digital cable subscribers, the channel offers a 24-hour weather station and a station that shows vintage television shows and classic films. Raycom Media of Montgomery, Alabama, is the owner of KSLA TV.

    KTBS

    • KTBS, Channel three in the Shreveport viewing area, is an affiliate network of ABC. The station launched on Sep. 5, 1955. The channel differs from others in the Shreveport area as it is privately owned by a local family, the Wrays, who are residents of Shreveport. The family also owns the KPXJ CW network affiliate station based in Minden. The station offers tours for individuals and local groups.

    KLTS

    • KLTS is the Shreveport affiliate of the Public Broadcasting System (PBS). The station is Channel 24 and is owned by Louisiana Public Broadcasting, or LPB, which is based in Baton Rouge. Like other public broadcasting stations, KLTS does not run advertisements and manages its finances from donations made by viewers and organizations as well as from companies that sponsor its individual shows. KLTS has three channels of programming available for digital cable subscribers, one of which transmits a high-definition (HD) signal. The station launched in 1978. KLTS does not offer news or weather programming, which is typical of public stations.

    KMSS

    • KMSS is Shreveport's FOX network affiliate. The station is Channel 33 in the city's viewing area and is commonly referred to as "Fox 33." The station is known for running contests that award prizes like cash and tickets to local sporting and other events. ComCorp of Texas owns KMSS and operates from Odessa, Texas.

    KSHV

    • KSHV is Channel 45 in the Shreveport viewing area and is known as "My 45." The station is not affiliated with any national network and instead shows a variety of syndicated television programs, such as sitcoms, police dramas, religious programs and news magazine shows. The channel does not have local news or weather programs. White Knight Broadcasting, Inc., a Shreveport-based subsidiary of ComCorp of Texas, the company that owns KMSS, owns KSHV.
