Campgrounds in Stoney Creek, Ontario

Stoney Creek, Ontario, is an outskirt of industrial Hamilton and sits on the shore of Lake Ontario. The quaint city has more than six miles of shoreline, and everything in the city is within a half-hour drive. The proximity to Hamilton and Toronto makes it a good choice if you want to stay somewhere less hectic while being close to sights such as the CN tower, Southern Ontario’s old-world Mennonite St. Jacobs Village and Niagara Falls.

  1. Confederation Park & Campground

    • Confederation Park offers go-karts.

      The campground at Confederation Park is open from May to September. It hosts tents and trailers on the lakefront. It has 50 sites with water and hydro and offers showers and laundry facilities. Campers swim and view wildlife, and pets are allowed. The campground is near the beach, shopping and a golf course. Operated by the Hamilton Conservation Authority, Confederation Park sits on the lake side of Highway 407, the large highway that connects Burlington and Hamilton over the water. The 205-acre park has several eateries including the restaurants Hutch’s, Beaches Grill and Patio and Baranga’s on the Beach. The park features Wild Waterworks as well as Adventure Village with batting cages, a climbing wall, bumper cars and mini-golf. Lakeland Go-Karts is also in the park.

    Fifty Point Conservation Area and Campground

    • Largemouth bass and rainbow trout are available in the stocked pond.

      The campground at Fifty Point Conservation Area is open from May to October. It offers 46 fully serviced campsites near Lake Ontario. Amenities include laundry facilities, showers, firewood, pay phones and a convenience store. Pets are allowed. A wildlife viewing area, swimming in the lake and salmon shore fishing are three ways to feel more connected with nature while camping at Fifty Point. Rainbow trout and largemouth bass can be fished without a fishing license at the stocked pond. Shopping and a golf course are nearby. This park, also operated by the Hamilton Conservation Authority, is between Highway 407 and Lake Ontario, to the southeast of Confederation Park. The nearly 200-acre Fifty Point Conservation Area includes a marina and boasts one of the warmest and cleanest stretches of beach on western Lake Ontario. There is a year-round outdoor ball hockey court. Many picnic tables are available if you like to make your own meals, and the Landing Restaurant has homemade entrees with new menu items added weekly.

    Birchwood Acres Family Camping

    • Felkers Falls, a medium plunge waterfall, has a large conservation area.

      Birchwood Acres is located off of Red Hill Valley Parkway. Adjacent to Felkers Falls Conservation Area and Kings Forest Lower, the campground is less than 10 minutes by car from the center of Stoney Creek. More toward the rural section, Birchwood Acres is also a 10-minute drive to the lake. The World Web’s Niagara travel region guide says the campground has 120 sites as well as sports fields, swimming and hiking. Call ahead.
