Campgrounds in Wrightwood, California

They say Wrightwood is the town with no traffic lights. Campers can dig that, and there's ample opportunity to camp in this resort community where the Serrano Indians once roamed. The Angeles National Forest is a paradise for hitching a tent, with numerous campgrounds at multiple elevations, each elevation having something different to offer. The campgrounds in Angeles National Forest are known for their peace and quiet, pretty trails and scenic views.

  1. Table Mountain Campground

    • This campground meanders around the mountaintops of Angeles National Forest, with eight different loops and magnificent views of the mountains and the Mojave Desert. Campsites here are spacious and far apart, providing bear-proof containers in select sites and plenty of privacy in all locations. A nearby lodge at Ski Sunrise offers telephone access and occasional evening entertainment. Elevation at Table Mountain is 7,500 feet, and the campground is open every season of the year. That means skiers are welcome. Reservations are required.

    Mountain Oak Campground

    • At an elevation of 6,400 feet, Mountain Oak Campground loops once around a hilltop. Here, you'll be surrounded by gambel oak and ponderosa pine trees for plenty of shade and cool mountain temperatures. You'll be in the heart of Angeles National Forest rattlesnake and bear country, and though bear-proof containers are provided in this campground, safe food storage techniques are recommended. Nearby Jackson Lake provides fishing, swimming, and canoeing moments from your tent. This campground is open year-round and highly recommended in the spring. Reservations are required.

    South Fork Campground

    • This campground is located along the lower levels of the Angeles National Forest, at an elevation of 4,800 feet. Desert brush such as juniper and sagebrush surrounds you here. This is where hikers like to make base camp, so privacy can range from fair to good. Nearby attractions include the south fork of Big Rock Creek, a view of surrounding mountains and year-round access. Though there is no charge to camp here, keep in mind an "Adventure Pass" is required from the Ranger District Office. Reservations are not required.
