Campgrounds on Lakes With Swimming in Minnesota

  1. Kamp Dels

    • Camp along Lake Sakatah at Kamp Dels in Waterville, roughly an hour south of St. Paul. Kamp Dels offers 400 sites for recreational vehicles (RV) and tents. Guests may choose from sites with no hook-ups, electric and water hook-ups or electric, water and sewer hookups. You also have your choice of "20 and 30 amp 120 volt electric hookups," according to the website. Complimentary cable television is available at all hook-up sites and complimentary wireless Internet is available throughout most of the campground. Kamp Dels also offers two, one-bedroom and four two-bedroom cabins complete with fully equipped kitchen, bed linens, campfire pit and 14-foot fishing boat.

      Guests can take a free hot shower at one of the three bathhouses or use the laundry room. Enjoy the barn, which houses the general store, lounge and craft area and game room. Kamp Dels offers on-site activities, such as swimming or fishing in the lake, enjoying the outdoor pool or waterpark, visiting the petting zoo or taking one of their horses for a ride. Kamp Dels camping season starts in mid-April and ends in early October and the cabin season starts in early May and ends in early October.

    Lake Carlos State Park

    • Discover the camping opportunities at the Lake Carlos State Park in Carlos, roughly three and a half hours north of Waterville. The park offers 121 sites in the upper and lower campgrounds. The lower campground offers proximity to Lake Carlos while the upper campground offers seclusion in the woods. Choose from sites with electric hook-up, a camp for horses and their riders and two group camp sites with electricity and a picnic shelter. Each campground has flush toilets and two shower buildings that are available only during the summer months. In addition, four camper cabins with heat, electricity and a screened-in porch.       The warmer months make Lake Carlos ideal for swimming, boating and fishing while the winter months call for cross-country skiing or snow-shoeing along the park's trails.

    Long Lake Park & Campground

    • For camping and scuba diving, head to the Long Lake Park & Campground in Bagley, less than three hours north of Carlos. The campground offers 90 sites ideal for RV or primitive tent camping. The RV sites have water, 30 or 50 amp electric hook-ups and can fit a RV up to 35 feet in length. In addition, two group sites with water and electric hook-ups, picnic table and area for tent camping are available. Public showers are housed in the camp's main building.

      Campers can try scuba diving, paddle boating, swimming or fishing in Long Lake. Kids can play in one of the two playgrounds or play a game in the game room. You can also explore the hiking trails throughout the campground's 53 acres. The campground is open from mid-May to mid-September and primitive camping is available during the fall hunting season.
