Campgrounds around Lake Somerville, Texas

With a shoreline of 85 miles, Lake Somerville covers 11,630 acres and flows through various campgrounds. The reservoir was constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1967. Lake Somerville campers can choose to stay in tents, cabins, RVs, and pop-out trailers. Campgrounds include primitive campsites allowing campers to fend for themselves and full amenity campsites that provide warm showers and breakfast.
  1. Lake Somerville State Park Campground

    • Birch Creek campground is located in Lake Somerville State Park and is 2,365 acres. Campers can choose from primitive campsites, campsites with water and electricity, walk-in tent sites, equestrian campsites or group trailer campsites. Campers can enjoy water activities such as water skiing, fishing, boating and swimming. Other activities include hiking, biking and horseback riding along the 20 miles of trails, picnicking, basketball and volleyball. Restrooms with and without showers are provided and fish cleaning shelters and trailer dump stations are also available. Birch Creek is open all year round and is busiest from March through the beginning of July. The Texas Parks and Wildlife website states that reservations can be made 11 months ahead of time through the Internet, by email, fax or phone.

    Yegua Creek Park Campground

    • Yegua Creek Park is located at Lake Somerville and has 47 campsites with water and electric hookups, nine water-only sites and 26 sites with water hookups. This year-round campground has flush toilets, showers, restrooms, and dump stations available. Some activities campers can enjoy include fishing, swimming, hiking, and boating. Reservations are to be made at least two days in advance and require a minimum stay of three days on holiday weekends and 2 days during regular weekends. Restrained pets are allowed.

    Lake Somerville Marina and Campground

    • Lake Somerville Marina and Campground provides accommodations for tent campers, RV campers and cabin campers. This family-owned-and-operated park was opened in 2002 and is located 14 minutes from Brenham, Texas. Campers can choose from over 40 primitive campsites and 96 electric and water campsite. Rental cabins look out over the lake and come with two double beds, heat, satellite television, refrigerators, showers and cook top burners. The lake can be used for fishing, boating and swimming at your own risk since there are no lifeguards on duty. Jet skis and canoes are available for rent. Campsite and cabin reservations can be made by phone.
