Located about 25 miles away from Augusta, Maine, Lake St. George State Park offers campgrounds that border the water's edge of the lake. This allows campers the opportunity for early morning swims, fishing or sunrise hikes. There are swings on-site, as well as a basketball court and sandbox. Visitors can also enjoy birdwatching and canoeing. The campgrounds are open from May 15 to October 1, according to the Visit Maine website. There are 38 sites for camping, as well as on-site toilets and showers.
