Water parks offer hours of entertainment for families. One problem with outdoor water parks, though, is that in areas where the climate is cold, they are not operational for six months during the year. In Pennsylvania, indoor water parks have solved that problem. There is one indoor water park in the western part of the state in Erie and two more in the Pocono Mountains in the eastern part of the state. These water parks are all connected with hotels and resorts that offer guests lodging and indoor water entertainment.
Located in the Pocono Mountains in Scotrun, the Great Wolf Lodge offers suites that accommodate four to eight people in addition to the indoor water park. The water park features family attractions like a four-story water fort, three slides and a game room. The water park also features slides and pools for toddlers and young children. Great Wolf Lodge also features six different restaurants and five different retail outlets. A new attraction for 2010 at the water park is the Double Barrel Drop, a slide that drops four passengers 60 feet on a raft where they are all facing each other.

Splash Lagoon in Erie is connected to three hotels that offer special packages for guests. The indoor water park also partners with four other hotels that are within a mile of Splash Lagoon and it offers free taxi service to the water park for hotel guests. Splash Lagoon features seven slides, a water tree fort, a lazy river, five different activity pools and an arcade. Splash Lagoon also features a restaurant, a dessert/sweets shop, a bar and lounge and a surf shop with swim gear.

Located in the Pocono Mountains in Lake Harmony, Split Rock Resort offers more than 1,200 acres of accommodations, golfing, tennis and indoor water park attractions. Split Rock features a lodge, cottages and suites and hotel rooms. Although the resort does feature a 27-hole golf course, the most popular attraction is the indoor water park. The water park features a "flowrider" that allows guests to surf and boogie board, a wave pool, three slides and a water fort. Split Rock Resort offers guest four restaurants, a bar and an ice cream shop.
