Originally part of the Indian Territory, Tulsa has grown from a small frontier town into Oklahoma's second-largest city. The city first gained recognition upon the discovery of oil in 1901. Tulsa now boasts a combination of Southern charm and big-city class. It is home to the Tulsa Ballet, Opera and Symphony Orchestra, as well as a handful of history museums, galleries, golf courses, campgrounds and parks. Hotels dot the city's busy streets, and one even houses its own indoor water park.
