One of only three Kalahari Resorts nationwide, the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, features the largest indoor water park in the state. However, Kalahari is more than just an indoor water park and hotel. In addition to the 125,000 square feet of indoor water park action and 750 guestrooms and suites, this African-themed resort features an outdoor water park, indoor theme park, full-service spa and salon, tons of conference space and numerous dining options.
Open every day of the year, Kalahari's massive indoor water park provides nonstop splashes and laughs, even in the middle of winter. The park houses a variety of rides and pools for the whole family, including three giant water slides, a roller coaster water ride, 902-foot lazy river, 504-foot family raft ride, surf simulator, kids interactive play fort/pool, wave pool, spiral flume ride and five hot tubs.
The outdoor water park at Kalahari Resort opens seasonally, from Memorial Day to Labor Day. This water park is actually a little smaller than the indoor park; however, it still features a number of exciting rides and pools, including three giant speed slides, two spiral flume rides, an interactive play area, raft ride, lazy river ride and huge 50-person hot tub. As of 2010, admission, which is good for both water parks, is $34 for an all day pass and $25 for an evening pass.
If you somehow get bored with Kalahari Resort's two huge water parks, or simply like to stay dry, the grounds also house a 1,000 square-foot indoor theme park. In addition to a bowling alley, video game arcade, laser tag arena, mini golf course, play structure and rock-climbing wall, the park features a number of classic carnival rides, including go-karts, a merry-go-round and Ferris wheel. Admission to the theme park ranges from $10 to $25, depending on age.
Starting at around $140 per night, the Kalahari Resort hotel offers three main room classes: guestrooms, family suites and condo suites. However, each class contains various room styles and African themes. At the least, each room features a mini-fridge, microwave, in-room safe, cable TV and free high-speed Internet access. But the more expensive rooms offer a variety of amenities, including kitchens, balconies, flat-screen TVs, multiple rooms and hot tubs; the nicest suites even contain private game rooms with pool tables. The hotel charges a $9.95 resort fee to each room, which covers access to two on-site fitness centers and both water parks.
A full-service spa and salon, Spa Kalahari provides a relaxing break from extreme water slides and screaming children. Open seven days a week, the spa offers an array of traditional and modern treatments, including hot stone massages, full-body mud wraps, pedicures, manicures and waxing. You must be at least 16 to enter the spa and have a parent permission slip if under 18.
Aside from the nearly endless attractions at Kalahari, the resort is perfect place to hold a conference or convention, due to its enormous holding capacity. According to the Kalahari Resort website, "the Kalahari Convention Center can accommodate any configuration of people from ten to a few thousand"
The many dining options at Kalahari Resort will certainly provide something to fit everyone's tastes. Aside from the many theme park and water park snack shacks, the resort features a fine-dining steak and pasta restaurant, casual tropical restaurant, barbecue restaurant, coffee and pastry shop and a handful of bars.
