With Wisconsin Dells, the reputed “Waterpark Capital of the World,” in the center of the state, it’s not surprising that there are no independent indoor water parks located in northern Wisconsin. However, several resourceful resorts have indoor water parks built into the hotel to entice guests for wet and wild pleasure when the snowy winters freeze up outdoor water slides.
Moose reign supreme at the Tundra Lodge Resort’s Waterpark with its moose- and elk-themed water attractions. Located in Green Bay, just over a mile from the legendary Lambeau Field, Tundra Lodge offers one of the only indoor water parks in northeast Wisconsin. Tundra Lodge’s 30,000-square-foot water park features an interactive water playground, along with two intense water slides and Green Bay’s only lazy river. Little swimmers can play in Tenderfoot Falls or try out the outdoor splash pad during the summer. While water park passes are included for overnight guests, the general public may also purchase full- and half-day passes depending upon hotel occupancy.
Located far north on the shores of Lake Superior, Ashland has the only water park in town and one of the few in the area. The Splashland Waterpark at Ashland’s AmericInn Lodge and Suites takes on the high seas with a small, nautical-themed water park. Though undersized, Splashland promises riders 200 feet of excitement on its Big Red water slide. The splash pool also features a mini-dump bucket, water cannons and big spray hoses for all sorts of water battles. Splashland’s kiddie pool is enhanced with a lighthouse statue and a mild slide that drops riders into the pool with only a tiny splash. The pool area also features an indoor, pirate ship-shaped play structure and a lighthouse slide.
The northwestern city of Eau Claire is home to the Chaos Waterpark in the Metropolis Resort. Claiming to be the world’s only comic book-themed water park, the brightly decorated pool area has water attractions for all ages. Little superheroes can take on the tunnels, waterspouts and tiny slides in Mayhem Bay. Older adventure-seekers can tackle the water walks and ropes course in Anarchy Bay, twist, turn and defy gravity on three water slides or survive the pounding waterfalls of the not-so-lazy Tsunami River. Guests looking to escape the craziness of Chaos can relax in the serenity Plaza hot tub. Overnight guests looking for less-damp activities for part of their stay will appreciate the on-site Action City with its mini-golf, wall climbs, go-karts and laser tag.
