ATV Trails Near Kent, Washington

Kent is one of Washington state's largest cities, located minutes from the Pacific Coast and near Seattle. The area was settled in the mid-19th century and enjoyed its first major industrial development with the production of hops. The success of hops led to the area being named after the English county of Kent, another area with strong historical ties to the hops industry. Today, the area boasts more than 60 parks and abundant nature to please the resident and visitor alike. All-terrain vehicles (ATVs) are one way to explore the scenic outdoors near Kent.
  1. Evans Creek

    • Evans Creek is located northwest of Mount Rainier National Park, about 30 minutes from Kent. The area provides 20 miles of ATV trails and is open whenever there is no snow on the ground. Views of Mount Rainier available from vantage points all along Evans Creek offers a scenic experience to ATV riders. Open trails, as well as steep inclines and some rocky and muddy sections, provide a diverse journey through the area. A campground is also available at Evans Creek to satisfy those looking to stay for a while. Guests must purchase a Northwest Forest Pass to ride the trails at Evans Creek. The fee for this pass is $30 as of March 2010.

    Straddeline

    • Located 40 miles southwest of Kent, Straddeline is an 160-acre park with 5 miles of trails for off-road vehicles. The park is open from April 1 to October 31 and charges $8 per day. Weekend camping is also available for an additional $8 per day per vehicle. Straddeline is managed by the local county parks and recreation department. Large group events are permitted. A special course for children ATV riders is available, as is a meeting and dance hall, concessions and public restrooms. The ATV trails cover flat strips, hilly inclines and sand drag strips to please riders looking for a diverse terrain.

    Capitol State Forest

    • Capitol State Forest provides some of Washington state's most popular ATV trails, with more than 100 miles of varied terrain. Capitol is located adjacent to the Straddeline trail system and also open from April 1 to October 31. There are no fees to ride in Capitol State Forest. ATV vehicles are permitted only in the northern half of the forest so horses and hikers may use the trails in the southern half. Trails of varying difficulty levels are available, including lowlands for beginning ATV riders. Diverse natural settings can be seen throughout the forest, from thick wooded areas to cleared fields and burn areas.
