How to Take a Teenager to Disneyland

While you may think of Disneyland as a place for young families and young children, many teenagers adore the roller coasters, food and fun of Disneyland. And there are many things you can do to make your time with a teenager at Disneyland more fun.

Instructions

  1. Before You Go

    • 1

Consider getting a park hopper pass at this theme park so you can go into the Magic Kingdom and California Adventure. Many of the rides at California Adventure were built for teenagers with thrill rides such as California Screamin' and the Twilight Tower of Terror. At the Magic Kingdom, teenagers will like Space Mountain, the Haunted Mansion and Splash Mountain.

    • 2

Plan on going when the park opens and staying until it closes, with no break. Teenagers usually have plenty of energy for theme parks and can easily go from opening to close, though they may complain about how tired they are the next day.

    • 3

Remember that night time is going to be a teenager's time. Disneyland at night time is beautiful and less crowded with young children. Consider going to the theme park during the summer because is open later during the summer.

    At Disneyland

    • 4

Expect to have a busy, roller-coaster day at the theme parks. Use the fast-pass option so you and your teenager can avoid waiting in line for the more popular rides. Fast passes give you a specific time to come back, so you "cut" in line. Expect to have to wait for a few minutes in line, but the lines will be significantly shorter with a fast pass. You will need your admission tickets to use fast passes, so be sure to give them to your teenagers.

    • 5

Bring your own snacks to cut down on the cost of food-though expect to spend some money on food, especially sweet snacks. Teenagers, especially boys, eat great quantities of food. Don't expect this to change just because you're on vacation.

    • 6

Consider giving your teenager a cell phone and sending them off to do their own thing, especially if they are with a friend or have a close-in age sibling. Make them check-in with you every hour, so you know they're not getting into trouble. If you plan on meeting them someplace, make it some place other than the gates of the castle-everyone meets there and it's very crowded.

    • 7

Suggest that your teenager put on sun block and wear hats during the summer; especially if they're not used to the Los Angeles sun. They should also wear appropriate, comfortable clothing and comfortable shoes, though depending on your teenager, this may be hard to get them to do.

    • 8

Remind teenagers that Disneyland is a family place. They should watch their language, and not crowd out any younger children.
