Tips on Universal Studios in Florida

Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida, is one of the most popular theme parks in the crowded Central Florida landscape. Its sprawling layout prevents you from getting to all the attractions, even if you devote a longer amount of time to the park. Savvy travelers know there are ways to get around the time-consuming parts of the park. There are tips on how to enjoy Universal Studios, whether it is for a few hours, a day or more.
  1. Go Out of Season

    • Adult tourists don't have to worry as much as families with children about this first step. Visiting Universal Studios Orlando anytime between mid-September and mid-November, the first two weeks of December or the first six weeks of the year is a smart move. Crowds are lighter, and add-ons to theme park admission are at their least expensive prices. Orlando is a year-round tourist destination, but colder weather brings fewer visitors.

    Arrive Early

    • Get to the park as it opens. As the day goes on, the lines for popular rides like Men in Black and E.T. increase. The Harry Potter attractions also fill up quickly. Cut down on the time in line by visiting the big rides first. It may involve a little sacrifice of sleep, but it pays off later in the day as you can see more of the park.

    Take The Express Route

    • The Universal Express pass allows you to board rides and attractions without having to wait in long lines. This includes all of the top attractions at the park. Universal charges an extra fee for this privilege. As of 2011, prices for Universal Express at peak times are as high as $60, but that price is as low as $20 during off-peak times.

    Stay at a Park Hotel

    • Choosing a Universal on-site hotel, which includes the Hard Rock Hotel, the Loews Portofino Bay Resort and the Loews Royal Pacific Resort, is more expensive than picking an off-site hotel. Guests enjoy exclusive benefits such as early admission to the park, Express passes to skip long lines for rides and complimentary use of water taxis or shuttle buses between the hotel and the theme park. It will cost a bit more, but the benefits outweigh the extra dollars.

    Stay Comfortable

    • Pack clothes and accessories appropriate to the season. Sunscreen is always advised even when the weather is cooler. Long-sleeved shirts and jackets are recommended for winter guests. Shorts may be cool, but pants and jeans in the suitcase are recommended in the event colder weather rules your trip. Sensible shoes for walking, sunglasses and plenty of bottled water are also recommended. You can bring bottled water into the park.
