Visiting New York City with children is an exciting way to explore America's biggest and busiest city, and there are numerous recreational opportunities available so adults and children can always be entertained. One place that is great for children is Times Square, the epicenter of Broadway that is now also home to numerous shops, family restaurants, museums and massive toy stores.     • Although it is technically a store, this Times Square location not only includes toys, but also features a 60-foot indoor ferris wheel and a 34-foot-long animated dinosaur for children of all ages to enjoy. Kids will also find a replica of Candy Land, complete with chocolates and sugary treats, as well as a life-sized Barbie house, Legoland, and a fully stocked room with electronics and video games called R-zone. The store also sponsors special events and is open until 11 on Friday and Saturday nights.

    Madame Tussauds Wax Museum

    • Celebrities recreated in wax is exactly what you will find at Madame Tussauds. This can be particularly exciting for older children, as they can see up close more than 200 of their favorite musicians, celebrities and notable figures from history. Children can have their picture taken with the wax figures, as well as check out a movie at Madame Tussauds' 4D theater. There kids can check out live-action horror shows, play American Idol or go up against an athlete during a virtual game of basketball, tennis or boxing. The museum is open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. from Sunday-Thursday and 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. Friday-Saturday. Tickets can be purchased online or in person.

    Shows at the New Amsterdam Theatre

    • With Times Square the heart of Broadway, there are numerous options to see shows, including those that cater specifically to children such as at the New Amsterdam Theatre. This Disney-sponsored theatre company features numerous productions for children such as puppetry, juggling, circus and comedy shows, dance and theatrical plays. Some past productions include: Mary Poppins, Hercules, Billy Elliott, 101 Dalmatians and The Lion King. The theatre also sponsors workshops for children, such as art for young playwrights, learning how to juggle, choreography, acting and stand-up comedy lessons.
