If a small cooler can be packed for the trip, place milk and ice in the cooler. Ice can keep a cooler cold for at least one day. Individual packages of cereal with a disposable bowl can be purchased at the supermarket and make for quick and nutritious breakfasts. If a traveler would prefer more protein in the morning, pack along English muffins smeared with peanut butter. Bagels will also not spoil during a four-day trip. Smear the bagels with peanut butter or cream cheese kept in the cooler. Other breakfast items that will not spoil on a four-day trip are apples, oranges and raisins. Supermarkets also sell certain juices that do not require refrigeration.

If a small cooler with ice is being taken along on the trip, deli meat sandwiches can be packed for the first day or two, depending on how long the ice stays whole before melting. Make up several turkey, ham, beef or bologna and cheese sandwiches the night before the trip and wrap each sandwich tightly in plastic wrap. Place all the sandwiches in a thick resealable plastic bag, to ensure the sandwiches do not get wet from the melting ice. Make up peanut butter sandwiches to eat during the rest of the trip, after the ice in the cooler melts. Pack along water and instant lemonade to mix together for a refreshing lunchtime beverage. Side items for lunch can be chips, fruit like apples and grapes, and a cookie for dessert.

Make up a large amount of chicken pasta salad and place it in an airtight plastic container to keep the melting ice water out of the salad. Be sure to pack plates and utensils on which to serve the pasta salad. Pack along air-tight containers of cheese and salami for dinner as well. When the ice in the cooler melts, eat handmade pizzas. To create these pizzas, open a jar of pizza sauce, which does not need to be refrigerated, and spread some on an English muffin. Next, cover the English muffin with spray-can cheese. Lastly, top the pizza with pepperoni, which also does not need to be refrigerated. Check the label of the pizza sauce because some jars of sauce require refrigeration after opening.
