Cooking Tools for Camp Fires

Cooking tools are one of the most important elements of your camping gear. Having the proper cooking tools means you don't end up starving for some good food. The type of cooking tools you need in your gear depends on your style of camping and the type of cooking you plan to do. If it is casual camping with you staying in a cabin, you could use a variety of camp cooking equipment. But, if it is only you and your backpack in the wilderness, then you have to limit your cooking tools. There are some common campfire cooking tools that you can use during camping.
  1. Tripods and Spits

    • Tripods and spits are stands that allow you to hang all types cooking utensils and tools over campfires. These are classic campfire cooking tools that enable you to cook a range of food items. You can hang containers with loop handles to cook your soups and stews, or hang kettles for your tea. You can roast lamb leg or trussed poultry by hanging them on a string from these stands, over the fire. Hang a grill grate for foods that need grilling.

    Pots and Pans

    • If you are looking to boil some water, make soups and teas, or cook eggs and pancakes, then pots and pans should go with you. There are many models and makes of campfire pots and pans available. In the case of skillets, go for one with a long handle, so you can hold it over fire from a distance without getting your hands burnt. Use pots and pans made of cast iron, as these can withstand high heat and distribute and retain heat efficiently. Cast Iron pots with loop handles and legs can be placed directly on campfire or hung through the loop handles from a tripod. If you think cast iron models are heavy to carry, try lightweight models.

    Rotisserie

    • A rotisserie allows you to roast big chunks of meat such as lamb legs, poultry, pork and beef over a campfire. Portable, foldaing models of rotisserie are available, making it easy for you to carry the equipment around. Some rotisserie models also come with a battery-powered motor, which turns meat chunks automatically during roasting.

    Skewers

    • Skewers with long handles are useful to cook bits of meat or camp catches safely without burning your hands. Skewers are also easy to use -- just stick the food chunk to the skewer end and hold them over the fire for cooking. You can cook sausages and hotdogs for kids this way easily. Compact, folding skewer models make carrying easy and can make for ideal camping gear.
