Fun Summer Camps for Teenagers

Sending your teens to camp will keep them occupied and active during the long, and sometimes boring, summer months. Camps provide teenagers with a friendly social environment and a full schedule of fun and enriching activities. Depending on your teen's interests, a number of different types of camp programs are available. The cost for most summer camps ranges from about $500 to $1,500 per week.
  1. Art Camps

    • A number of suitable camps are available for the artistically inclined teenager. Art camps will accommodate any aspiring teen artist, whether they are a painter, photographer or aspiring actor. The iD Visual Arts Academy in Campbell, California, is one such example. Course offerings include filmmaking, video editing and digital photography. This curriculum is complemented by traditional camp activities such as sporting events and camp-wide movie screenings. By the end of the summer, campers will have completed a full portfolio of their work at iD.

    Sports Camps

    • Sports camps can help keep teens in excellent physical condition over the long summer months.

Finding a reputable sports camp for the young athlete is easy, especially if he is interested mainly in baseball, football or soccer. Specialized camps focusing on tennis, lacrosse, rock climbing and other alternative sports are less common and may require a bit of travel. Camps for the extreme sports fan such as Camp Woodward in Woodward, Pennsylvania, are also available. Woodward offers campers full access to professionally designed skatepark facilities and BMX tracks. Courses on video production and digital photography are also provided for the aspiring action sports photographer.

    Technology Camps

    • Ideal for the young computer wizard, technology buff or aspiring astronaut, these camps balance a rigorous technical curriculum with traditional summer fun. Curriculum related to aeronautical equipment, space exploration, computer construction, web programming languages and software development are available at most establishments. Founded in 1977, National Computer Camp provides a hands-on curriculum based on all aspects of computer technology including 2D and 3D video game design, Android application programming and digital video production. When campers are not engaged in tech-related projects, sports and other traditional extracurricular activities are available.

    Religious Camps

    • Camps that offer religious study in addition to traditional camp activities are becoming increasingly popular. The Young Men's Christian Association provides wholesome summer fun to teen campers of the greater Houston area. Activities emphasizing personal growth and community impact such as lifeguard training, sport coaching and academic tutoring workshops are available at most YMCA camps. Day trips to local monuments and landmarks, as well as excursions to wildlife reserves are also offered throughout the summer.
