Florida Summer Camps for Girls

Girls looking for something to do this summer should investigate what Florida summer camps have to offer. Girls interested in Girl Scouts, horses and modeling will find ample opportunities for summer fun.

  1. Camp Wildwood

    • Girls will be excited to spend some quality time this summer at Camp Wildwood Girl Scout Camp. Located an hour north of Tampa in the town of Wildwood, this camp allows girls to swim in the Olympic pool, challenge themselves on the climbing wall or in off-road biking, and even try geocaching. Camp Wildwood also offers an equestrian barn and two well-lit riding arenas. The girls will also learn wilderness skills such building a fire and cooking outdoors. In addition, they will learn science concepts and can participate in a "Solar Derby," a downhill car race using cars designed by the girls and powered by solar energy.

Girl Scout members are encouraged to attend the camp, but non-Girl Scouts are still at the camp for an additional fee. The camp is open to girls ages 5 through 17, but younger girls must complete kindergarten before spending time in an overnight camp. All meals will be provided at the dining hall. Camp Wildwood is open from June to July.

    Cypress House Ranch Horse Camp

    • Girls interested in horses and riding will find no better place to spend a summer week than at the Cypress House Ranch Horse Camp in Bushnell, just one hour north of Tampa. The camp, which is in its 18th year, allows limits enrollment to seven girls per weekly session so that each girl gets as much riding time as possible. Each girl takes part in daily English and Western riding lessons and cleaning horses and their stalls. After a long ride, they can cool down in the pool.

The camp is ideal for girls older than 9 who have completed the third grade. The girls bunk with girls of similar age in the main section of the on-site bed and breakfast, called the Cypress House B&B. No other guests are allowed to stay at the B&B while camp is in session. All meals are dietitian-approved and served buffet style. Camp starts in June and runs until mid-August.
