Free Camps for Special Needs Kids

A plethora of summer camps are specifically designed for special needs children to provide a supportive, fun environment. Camps are available for special needs children across the spectrum, including those diagnosed with AIDS/HIV, cancer, heart disease, autism and ADHD. Although many special needs camps can be expensive, a select few operate as non-profits and provide their services free.
  1. Camp Kindle

    • Camp Kindle is non-profit organization that provides summer camps, year round mini-day camps and ongoing support for children and youth living with HIV and AIDS. Camp Kindle primarily serves Heartland, California and other west coast states, although it often takes campers on day trips to other places. The camp provides a fairly typical summer camp environment, with a focus on camping outdoors, enjoying activities in nature and forming friendships and bonds between campers and counselors.

    Camp del Corazon

    • Camp del Corazon is another California based camp that provides a free residential summer camp for children ages 7 to 17 who have dealt with heart disease. The Camp del Corazon nonprofit organization also provides regular leadership retreats, hosts educational symposiums and offers family weekend programs. The summer camp serves over 300 campers per year, and is staffed by volunteer nurses, physicians and counselors. It has three separate camp locations, all in California.

    Lions Bear Lake Camp

    • Lions Bear Lake Camp, supported and funded by the Lions Club, provides a free summer camp experience for visually impaired youth. The camp focuses on having fun while developing independence skills and enjoying outdoor experiences. Its traditional two-week sleepaway program offers campers the opportunity to enjoy kayaking, canoeing , swimming, arts and crafts, team building and challenge activities under the supervision of experienced counselors. The camp is located on Bear Lake in Lapeer, Michigan.

    Camp for All

    • Camp for All is an inclusive free summer camp that serves children and youth with special needs ranging from cancer, muscular dystrophy, HIV and AIDS to cognitive challenges. Camp for All prides itself on being a barrier-free camp, designed as much as possible to be accessible to campers of all ability levels. Camp for All is in the greater Houston, Texas area, although it serves campers from all over the United States and the world.
