Camp Ketcha Day Camp is located in Scarborough, Maine and sits on 133 acres of pristine fields surrounded by nearby lakes and streams. Its traditional day camps serve children ages 3 to 13, while its specialty day camps serve ages 6 to 14. Horsemanship camps and counselor-in-training programs are also available. Camp Ketcha offers traditional day camp activities, including swimming, sports like soccer and kickball, arts and crafts, and drama and music, while its specialty camps offer anything from golf camp to galaxy camp, which focuses on learning about the solar system. If your children are looking to experience their first sleep-away camp, Camp Ketcha also offers overnight accommodations from mid-July to early August.
If your child is looking to do something a little different this summer, then Surf Camp at Scarborough Beach is where it's at. Surf Camp is the largest camp of its kind in New England and is dedicated to surfing. Camp runs every week, Monday through Friday, from mid-June through August, and is available for kids ages 9 to 17. If the weather is bad and rain prevents surfers from getting in the water, then field trips are organized to visit local surf shops--or simply to the movies. The camp provides surf boards for everyone, so there is no need to have your own equipment.
The Otter Pond Outdoor Adventure Camp is sponsored by the Greater Portland YMCA and sits near Sebago Lake, about a 25-minute drive from Scarborough. Otter Pond offers swimming, a ropes course, arts and crafts and sports for campers ages 5 to 12. The camp boasts more than 80 years of experience and prides itself on strong leadership and positive relationships with campers and their families. Leadership-in-training and counselor-in-training courses are available for teens 13 to 14 and 14 to 16, respectively. Sessions start June 21 and run through the end of August.
