Find your appropriate CIC office. You must ensure that you send your passport to the correct CIC office. The office to which you send your passport depends on your country of residence and the type of application you are making to the CIC. For Americans applying for permanent residence in Canada, the appropriate CIC office is in Buffalo, New York. Americans applying for other immigration status documents, such as student visas or work permits, have various CIC office options, including Buffalo, Detroit, Los Angeles, New York and Seattle. You can find a complete list of CIC offices on the CIC website (see Resources).
Note the mailing address of your CIC office. From the CIC website, click on the appropriate office to get contact information for that office. Keep in mind that the mailing address may in some cases be different from the office location address. Be sure to use the office's mailing address when sending your passport.
Mail your passport to the appropriate CIC office. Since your passport is an important and unique document, using an enhanced mailing service, such as a commercial courier or Priority Mail, can offer extra security for your documents. Also, ensure that the CIC has your accurate mailing address so that they can return your passport to you.
