How to Renew My Passport in Tennessee

Passport renewal requirements are standard for all states. Passport Services in the U.S. Department of State handles these requests. As long as your current passport is not damaged, was issued at 16 years of age or older, is not more than 15 years old, and is in your current name, your request can be processed by mail. To renew your passport in person in Tennessee, going to your county clerk's office is your best bet, as the nearest State Department office is in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Instructions

  Go to your local county clerk's office. For a fee, this office will process your request and submit it to the Passport Agency in New Orleans. Check with your local office to inquire about the additional fee.

  Complete Form DS-82, Application for a U.S. Passport by Mail. Submit this form along with your current passport.

  Provide two 2 inch by 2 inch photos. If you do not already have the two passport photos, your county clerk's office can take them on the premises for a fee. The fees vary depending on your county.

  Write a check or money order for the renewal fee. The U.S. Department of State prefers checks and charges a non-refundable fee of $110, as of 2010.
