How to Check Whether My Passport Has Gone for Inquiry
Inquiry is a step in the passport application process for determining that the information provided on your passport application is true and accurate. This includes verifying your citizenship status and that you meet all the requirements for passport approval. To check the status of your passport or to see if your passport has gone for inquiry, you must visit the U.S. Department of State travel website. Information on the status of your passport is available five to seven days after you submit your application. Information may be available sooner for an expedited passport .

Open the U.S. Department of State travel website and click "Passports."

Click "Application Status," then "Check Application Status."

Click "Submit" after reviewing the "Privacy and computer fraud and abuse acts notices and disclaimers."

Enter your personal information including your last name, date of birth and the last four digits of your Social Security number.

Click "Submit." The status of your passport will appear on the next screen.
