Gather all of the correct documentation required. Omission of any of the requirements will result in delaying the process and you may not be able to get your passport the same day. Print and fill out Form DS-11 application for a U.S. passport, provide evidence of U.S. citizenship, a valid form of I.D., a photocopy of your I.D., two passport photos that are 2-by-2 inches, proof of departure and the necessary fees. A link in the resources section lists the current fees. Know the correct fees and method of payment accepted before you go to prevent delays. If you want to receive your passport the same day you will need to pay an additional fee.
Apply in person at a Passport Agency. A listing of passport agencies is available on travel.state.gov. A link is provided in the resources section.There are no Passport Agencies in Kentucky, so you will have to travel out of state. You must make an appointment before you go.
Find a passport acceptance facility near you by going to the Passport Facility Search Page and searching by zip code, state, or state/city. Searching by "Kentucky" will bring up a list of all the passport acceptance facilities in the state. You will see a list of places where you can apply for a passport in person along with the address and phone number. If you click on the name of the facility it will also show you opening and closing times and whether you need to make an appointment first. Most post offices offer passport services. You can use a passport acceptance facility if you are going through an expediting company.
Go through a reputable and reliable expediting company. Gather the same documents described in Step 1. You will also need a letter giving the expediting company permission to submit and pick up your passport. Also, fill out an order form for the expediting company. Take the documents in person to a passport acceptance facility or agency. The agent will witness you signing the form, put your documents in an envelope, seal it and give it to you. After that, send it to the expediting service. Remember that in addition to the regular passport application fees, you will need to pay the expediting service fees.
