Complete the passport application online for your baby at passports.gov.au. The application is a page-by-page guided form that must be completed, printed and signed by the baby's legal guardians.
Obtain notarized written consent from all legal guardians of the baby. Signing the consent forms must be legally witnessed by persons of no familiar relationship to the baby's guardians and must be notarized by a certified party.
Gather supplemental documents to submit along with the printed application form. These include the baby's original birth certificate, one parent's birth certificate or other proof of Australian citizenship at the time of birth, two identical color passport size photos and any special documents, such as court orders concerning guardianship.
File the application in person at your nearest Australia post outlet (post office) that accepts applications. For a full list of acceptable locations, visit auspost.com.au. First passports and child passports must be filed in person by at least one of the baby's parents. The baby does not have to be present and the parent applicant must provide sufficient forms of identification.
Pay the application fee of either A$104 for a standard child passport or A$156 for a Frequent Traveler child passport (twice the number of pages) at the time of application. If considering a Frequent Traveler passport for your baby, remember that child passports only last for five years. The fee can be paid with cash or credit card.
