How to Renew a Passport for a Person Born in VA

The process for renewing a United States passport is the same for all United States citizens, but if you were born in Virginia and remained there, you have relatively easy access to the passport agency in Washington, D.C. (one of eighteen regional passport agencies nationwide). If your current passport is in good shape, you received it after the age of 16, it was issued in the last 15 years under your current name and you are not in a hurry, you should apply for your renewal by mail. The typical turnaround time for mailed passport renewals are four to six weeks for standard mail, two to three weeks if the application is mailed overnight.
