How to Obtain or Renew a Philippine Passport

All Philippine passport applications must be made in person at your nearest Philippine consulate or embassy, whether you're getting your first passport or renewing your old Philippine passport. Because it takes an average of six weeks for your passport application to be processed -- and because you may need to make arrangements to travel to a consulate, if you don't live nearby -- you'll want to start thinking about your passport situation well before your departure date when planning a trip abroad.

Things You'll Need

Gather all of the materials necessary for renewing your old passport or getting your first passport. For those renewing an old passport, you'll need to take your current passport, a copy of the data pages of your current passport and proof of current Philippine citizenship. Proof of current Philippine citizenship can include a green card or a U.S. Visa/I-94. Those applying for their first Philippine passport will need to take a Report of Birth.

Take your documents, passport fee and completed application to your nearest Philippine consulate. You don't need an appointment; applications are processed on a first-come, first-served walk-in basis. You'll be fingerprinted and have your photograph taken at this time.
