How to Renew a Bahamian Passport

If you are one of the 255,000 Bahamian passport holders, the time may have come to renew an expired passport. In fact, even if you're passport says it is valid for years to come, by April 2010 all Bahamians are required to have Machine Readable Passports (MRPs), more commonly called e-passports. So if you haven't done it already, here is how to renew your Bahamian passport.

  Obtain a passport application form from the Bahamian government's website and complete in block letters, using only blue or black ink.

  Attach the necessary documents, including a copy of your National Insurance Card, your old/expired passport, or a police statement in the case of a lost or stolen passport.

  Take three color passport photos and attach to your documents. These should measure from 2 1/2 to 2 inches by 2 to 1 1/2 inches and must be recent.

  Have someone you know countersign your application and endorse the back side of one of the attached photos, confirming that that the photo is truly of you in a brief statement along with a signature.

  Include the processing fee in your package. The fees are $25 for a child`s passport renewal, $50 for a regular passport renewal, and $100 for a frequent traveler's passport.

  Mail or deliver the documents to the Bahamas Passport Office, and wait two to six weeks from the date of receipt for the processing of your renewal.
