Log on to the Indian Visa and Consular Services Center website. (See Resource 1.) Scroll down to the map of Canada and click on the territory you live in. You will be directed to a page with the addresses and phone numbers of your nearest Visa and Consular Services Center. Several locations are in each territory, but keep in mind that most of these are walk-in service centers. There are only three locations that accept mail-in applications. The appropriate mail-in address will be listed on the page.

Print the "Passport Application for Indians Living Abroad" from the Consular Services site. (See Resource 2.) Fill out the necessary information and gather the supplemental materials for the application. According to the Indian Visa and Consular Services Center, needed materials are: four passport-size photos of yourself, the appropriate application fee ($65 Canadian in 2010, with additional service fees of $20.21), your existing passport, your Permanent Resident card, and a copy of your PR card.

Choose your method for submitting the application. If you can submit the application in person, simply drop off the materials during the nearest center's drop-off hours. You have a number of payment options when you submit your application in person, including check, cash, bank draft and credit card.

If you have to mail your application, remember that only three locations accept mail-in applications: Ottawa, Toronto, and Vancouver. To pay for your application, get a demand draft made out to VF Services (Canada) Inc.

Get a self-addressed Canada Express Post envelope, or, if you live in Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island or Labrador, a National Express Canada Post envelope, and place it inside an envelope with your other application materials. The center will use the self-addressed envelope to mail you your passport. Mail the entire packet to the appropriate location for your area.
