Make sure you qualify. Valid reasons include tourism, undergoing medical care, and/or participation in a convention or conference. Amateur entertainers and athletes wishing to perform/participate in event may also qualify.
Check to see if you qualify for the visa waiver program. The program allow eligible persons to enter the United States for up to ninety days without a B-2 Visa.
Agree to stay in the United States for less than six months. For person planning to stay longer, still obtain a B-2 Visa. Once in the country, request an extension. Or, change your status to permanent residence by applying and qualifying for a Green Card.
Make sure you meet all requirements of the B-2 Visa. You have to have a permanent residence in your home country. Also, prove you have the money to fund the trip yourself. You do not qualify for US assistance programs.
Make sure you have a valid passport. It cannot be dated to expire within six months of the date you will enter the United States.
Start the application process. You will need to make an appointment with the Consulate in your area. Bring your passport, money to cover the associated fees, a description of your trip and a recent 2 by 2 inch photo. You may be digitally fingerprinted at the interview. Allow plenty of time between the interview and the approval of your B-2 Visa paperwork.
