Instructions

    • 1

Pay the visa processing fee for the visa at the Thai Post Office or by phone. Payment for fees is not accepted at the Consular Section. Keep the receipt.

    • 2

Visit the Visa Information and Appointment Website and Call Center Service and purchase a PIN with your credit card. Having this pin will allow you to schedule an interview.

    • 3

Schedule an interview at the US Embassy in Bankok by phone or web. If you live in Chang Mai or the northern regions, you may schedule a non-immigrant visa interview at the Chang Mai Consulate.

    • 4

Download, print and fill out the application forms for the visa you have selected. This will include the DS-156 and DS-157 forms, as well as supplemental forms for students and exchange visitors.

    • 5

Take a passport-sized photo at any photo processing center and affix it to your DS-156 form.

    • 6

Gather your materials to prepare for the interview, which include your current passport, application forms, the original receipt for your application fee and evidence "proving ties outside the United States." This final requirement is necessary when applying for a non-immigrant visa to show the likelihood that you, the applicant, will return to Thailand or your place of origin before your US visa expires. A list of the sorts of documents that provide this evidence are downloadable from the Bankok Embassy's website.

    • 7

Arrive at the US Embassy in Bankok about half an hour before your scheduled interview. Put your forms in order: passport first, then application forms and finally the fee receipt.

    • 8

Purchase an envelope at the Thailand Post kiosk on the Embassy grounds and fill out your name and address in block capital letters on the envelope.

    • 9

Hand in the envelope with your documents at the proper window. Embassy officials will instruct you on which window is appropriate.

    • 10

Attend your interview with the documents proving ties outside the United States. Fingerprints will usually be taken during the interview.
