Make sure you meet all eligibility criteria. You need to be a U.S. resident of at least 18 years of age, and you need to hold a valid U.S. driver's license with an expiration date of at least six months past the issuance date of the IDP. You do not need to hold a Florida driver's license to apply for an IDP in Florida, but you may also apply as an out-of-state resident holding a valid out-of-state license. Your driver's license must not be revoked or suspended.
Have your photo taken or make sure you have two photos that meet the requirements. You need to present two recent original passport-size photos along with your application. Photocopies of passport photos will not suffice. Sign both photos on the back.
Choose an organization for your IDP application. If you want to apply in person in Florida, you need to apply through the AAA South.
Download and print out the application form from the AAA South website and fill in the application.
Find your nearest local office through the AAA South website to apply in person. Bring the completed application form, two passport-style photos, a photocopy of your valid driver's license--front and back-- and the processing fee to the AAA South office. Make checks or money orders payable to "AAA/IDP". The local office will issue your IDP.
Via mail, send the completed application form, two passport-style photos, a photocopy of your valid driver's license--front and back--and the permit fee to your local AAA South office in Florida or to AAA South, Attn: IDP, 1000 AAA Drive, Heathrow, FL 32745-5063. Make your check or money order payable to"AAA/IDP". Do not send cash.
Allow two to three weeks processing time before receiving your IDP in the mail.
Download and print out the application form from the NAC website and complete it.
Check the application form for your preferred shipping and make sure to add the respective postage amount to the permit fee when making out your check or money order.
Mail your application along with two passport-size photos, a photocopy of your valid driver's license--front and back--and a check or money order covering the permit fee as well as the additional postage to National Automobile Club, Attn: IDP, 1151 E. Hillsdale Blvd., Foster City, CA 94404. The NAC asks you to sign the copy of your driver's license. If you would prefer to pay by credit card, you need to include your credit card number, expiration date and authorizing signature.
Be prepared to wait for about two to three weeks for your IDP to arrive unless you have chosen and paid for expedited processing.
