How to Install a Pop-Up Camper Top

A pop-up camper that is more than 15 years old will probably need a new canvas top. The sun and inclement weather take a harsh toll on that old canvas, and small patch jobs will only postpone the inevitable. Replacing the canvas top on a pop-up camper should not take more than two or three hours, assuming you obtain the exact replacement canvas. Common sizes are readily available from dealers, but in some cases you may be asked to send in the old canvas before the manufacturer can provide you with a replacement.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay out all pieces of new canvas on the ground and identify their proper location on the camper.

    • 2

From the inside face of the canvas, hold it for the front bed by the upper edge near the middle. While kneeling on the front bed, press the upper edge of that canvas into the channel above the front bed with your fingers or a flathead screwdriver, beginning at one corner and continuing left and right until all three sides above the bed are secured. Repeat with the lower edge of that canvas. If required, secure the canvas in both channels with screws.

    • 3

      Repeat with the rear bed.

    • 4

Repeat with the canvas piece opposite the door.

    • 5

Repeat with the two canvas pieces adjacent to the door.

    • 6

Secure the zippers or Velcro between all canvas pieces.
