Disney Theme Parks Recommended for Teenagers

Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, the self-proclaimed "happiest place on earth," promotes good, clean family fun. Cast members (Disney employees) can't have visible tattoos or facial hair, the theme parks don't allow smoking, and teens who loved Disney World as kids may feel they've aged out. But teens can have a good time, particularly in certain areas.
  1. Disney's Hollywood Studios

    • Disney's Hollywood Studios (formerly MGM Studios) has a rock and roll sensibility that makes this theme park the most teen-friendly of the four major parks. The Rock N' Roller Coaster, with music by Aerosmith, is a far cry form the DUMBO ride, and The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror is a little cheesy, but good for young teens. Teens who like movies might want to check out Studio Backlot Tour, where they can see how special effects are made. Lights, Motors, Action!™ Extreme Stunt Show presents live stunts.

    Blizzard Beach

    • Blizzard Beach Water Park has a 120-foot high water slide, Summit Plummet. The slide has a 12-story drop and riders go up to 60 miles per hour. Other thrill rides at the park include Snow Stormers, a slalom-style racing water slide and Slush Gusher, a 90-foot tall water slide. Groups of teens can head to Toboggan Racers, where up to eight riders compete in a water slide race.

    Epcot DiveQuest

    • The Epcot theme park has a special experience for kids 10 and older, and those 14 and older can participate without a parent. Epcot DiveQuest, for SCUBA certified teens, lets teens dive in the Caribbean Coral Reef aquarium with sharks, rays, exotic fish and turtles. The three hour experience, in the Living Seas exhibit, includes all equipment, except for bathing suits. Dolphins in Depth, a three hour tour for those 13 and older, includes dolphin interaction. These experiences cost extra.

    Typhoon Lagoon

    • Disney's Typhoon Lagoon, the other water park at Walt Disney World, has a Surf Pool with waves up to six feet tall. Before the park opens, tweens and teens can take surf lessons (for an additional fee). The park also has twisting body slides, called Storm Slides and Crush 'n' Gusher, roller coaster-style water slides. At Shark Reef, anyone 10 and older can snorkel, with all equipment provided free. Snorkel with leopard and bonnethead sharks, stingrays and tropical fish.
