Homemade Hand Washing Station

Homemade hand-washing stations are useful, as you don't have to worry about slippery soap falling on the ground or the floor of a community shower. Use homemade hand-washing stations while camping or as a summer camp activity. Such stations can also require the use of teamwork, which helps children on camping trips/summer camp bond and learn how to work together. It also teaches the importance of recycling. A few inexpensive items from around the home can be reused to create such stations.

Instructions

    • 1

Thread rope through a role of paper towels and hang on a tree. Position the roll so even small children can get to it.

    • 2

Punch holes at the top of your bleach/laundry detergent jug with a screw or nail. Make the holes on the side opposite of the handle--think of a watering can as your model when you do this. Take the cap off the jug, fill the jug with water and replace the cap.

    • 3

Place the soap in the pantyhose and tie it to the handle of the jug. Thread thick rope through the handle and tie it securely to a lower-hanging tree branch.

    • 4

Use the hand washing station with a friend if possible. Have the friend tip the jug so as to wet your hands, then lather hands with the soap through the pantyhose. Once you feel your hands are thoroughly clean, have your friend tip the jug again to rinse your hands with water.
