Camping at Lake Cumberland

Lake Cumberland, located in the state of Kentucky, is a man-made reservoir originally developed to create hydroelectric power, and control flooding of the Cumberland River. Along with the benefits of hydroelectric power and flood control, Lake Cumberland is used for recreation, including camping.
  1. RV and Cabin Camping

    • Camping is one of Lake Cumberland's most popular activities. Camping provides tourists the opportunity to take advantage of Lake Cumberland's many outdoor activities. Lakecumberlandvacation.com recommends several camping grounds and companies. Foggy Bottom RV Park and Campground specializes in accommodating tourists traveling via RV and those desiring a cabin rental. The campsite offers more than 165 acres of private hunting grounds, guides to provide tours of the natural surroundings and private lake area for fishing. Guests are also in close proximity to restaurants and docks (where boats can be rented). The campground offers guests a swimming pool, showers, bathrooms, washers and dryers.

      Indian Hills Campgrounds of America (KOA) is another popular Lake Cumberland campground. Camp amenities include 18-hole miniature golf, swimming pool, children's playground, a TV lounge and other guest amenities. This KOA offers areas for RV parking and cabin rentals.

    Tent Camping

    • Many campers desire a more primitive camping experience. Not all campgrounds offer tent camping space; however, there are a couple of campgrounds in the Lake Cumberland area that have space for tents. The Lake Cumberland State Resort Park contains space for tent camping. As tents have no amenities, the park offers bathhouses, restrooms, drinking water and grills. General Burnside Island State Park is another area that offers tent camping. The park is situated next to Lake Cumberland and offers guests opportunities for water activities and fishing. The park also contains an 18-hole golf course.

    Off Campground Activities

    • Lake Cumberland offers a plethora of activities for campers. Nearly all campgrounds have access to the lake. Popular lake activities include fishing, swimming, tubing and jet skiing. Tourists camping at Lake Cumberland have access to several restaurants with cuisine ranging from Chinese to Italian. Golf is a popular activity for many campers. The Lake Cumberland State Resort Park offers a 9-hole, 3 -par golf course. The Lakewood Country Club offers an 18-hole golf course open to tourists as well. The Links at Lily Park is another option for Lake Cumberland campers. The site offers 18 holes, a driving range, golf shop and golf lessons.
